2024 Riverview

Incident at Mosaic’s Riverview Facility

March 26, 2024

Yesterday, a brushfire occurred at our Riverview facility during routine maintenance. The fire produced observable smoke, primarily from some high-density polyethylene plastic piping near the brush fire. We are currently assessing any impacts to operations and working with local authorities on next steps.

Thanks to the swift action of our employees and local emergency responders, the fire was contained around midnight. Our employees are all safe, and continuous monitoring of the site is in progress.

As community members have observed, the recent smoke development at our Riverview site is attributed to foam retardants used by Hillsborough County Fire Rescue. These retardants are being applied to cool down the pipes affected by last night’s fire. The current conditions, including the dryness of the area, the residual heat from the pipes, and wind, are being actively mitigated by emergency response teams.

We extend our heartfelt thanks for their ongoing support, as well as the additional assistance provided by the Florida Division of Forestry. The safety of our employees and neighbors remains our top priority. This event, alongside the active management of its aftermath, underscores the risks of fires during Florida’s dry season and the importance of remaining vigilant.

We plan and practice year-round to ensure our site personnel are well-prepared for potential emergency situations. The responsive actions taken yesterday at Riverview demonstrate the significance and effectiveness of those efforts.

We are committed to keeping our neighbors and members of the local community informed with updates as the situation continues to evolve in the coming days.
