PG Pilot Road Project: Putting Science to Work

Placeholder: Mosaic Community Image

Phosphogypsum, also known as PG, is a byproduct created during the phosphate fertilizer manufacturing process. In the U.S., PG is generally required to be stored in large, regulated stacks. But based on recent research, PG can be reused for more than 55 applications, including agriculture, forestry, and environmental projects. In 2025, Mosaic received EPA-approval to construct the PG Pilot Road Project at New Wales and test PG in real-world conditions as a sustainable alternative for road base materials. PG can potentially replace the use of limited resources and reduce the need for gypstacks, allowing for land to be put to more productive use.
