Students and families across Robinson Elementary School and neighboring Turkey Creek Middle School—nearly 1,500 individuals in total—will have increased access to nutritious food through a new school food pantry opened through a partnership between The Mosaic Company and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Located at Robinson Elementary, the pantry is designed to support daily needs for both school communities while strengthening stability beyond the classroom. The opening marks the fifth and final pantry established through the Tackling Hunger partnership, fulfilling a five-year commitment to expand food access in high-need communities across Tampa Bay in coordination with Feeding Tampa Bay.

To celebrate the opening, Mosaic, the Buccaneers and Feeding Tampa Bay hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony, which highlighted the growth of the partnership since its launch in 2021 and the impact this collective effort has had on addressing hunger in the Tampa Bay area.

Following the ceremony, the excitement spilled outdoors as Buccaneers players, cheerleaders, staff, and Captain Fear joined students for an energetic field day celebration. Children rotated through tug-of-war, football throws, and other hands-on games, creating memorable moments and meaningful connections with the team. The event gave students the chance to celebrate their new school resource while proudly showing off their Buccaneers gear and team spirit. For organizers, the day symbolized something greater—a powerful partnership among schools, nonprofits, and local businesses united in investing in the well-being of local families and the broader community.

"We are proud of the impact this fifth pantry opening adds to our Tackling Hunger partnership with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and to deepen our support for local families,” said Bruce Bodine, President and CEO of The Mosaic Company. “Today’s announcement is a great example of our long-term commitment to fighting hunger and helping ensure kids and their families have reliable access to nutritious food. Together with our partners, we’re building stronger, more resilient communities across Central Florida.”

“School based pantries are a critical lifeline for families struggling with hunger,” said the CEO of Feeding Tampa Bay. “This final pantry at Robinson Elementary expands our ability to meet families where they are and ensures students have reliable access to nutritious food throughout the year.”

Strengthening Food Access Where Families Learn and Live

School-based food pantries play an important role in supporting families struggling with hunger caused by financial pressures, access challenges, and other issues. In Hillsborough County, an estimated 17% of children are fighting hunger daily, and 68% are income eligible for federal nutrition programs, underscoring the importance of accessible, school-based support.

Since the Tackling Hunger partnership began in 2021, Mosaic and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have helped provide more than 780,000 meals to neighbors in need across Tampa Bay. This includes serving more than 5,500 families and providing over 240,000 meals through the four previously opened school food pantries.

The opening at Robinson Elementary represents the culmination of this multiyear initiative and reflects Mosaic’s mission to help the world grow the food it needs by expanding access to underserved and underrepresented communities. Through partnerships like Tackling Hunger, Mosaic continues to invest in programs that support students, families and long-term community resilience.

Legacy: With the opening at Robinson Elementary, the Tackling Hunger partnership leaves a lasting legacy of five school pantries in five years, strengthening food security and opportunity for students and families across Tampa Bay.
