Mosaic announces the 2025 EHS Risk Reduction Awards recipients

May 19, 2026

Mosaic is proud to announce the recipients of the 2025 EHS (Environment, Health, and Safety) Risk Reduction Awards. The awards recognize the most impactful initiatives developed by our teams around the world to reduce risks, protect people, and promote more sustainable practices across our operations.

This year, 70 projects were submitted, reinforcing Mosaic's ongoing commitment to safety and sustainability excellence. After a thorough evaluation, the winning projects were selected for their ability to eliminate or significantly reduce risks across the categories of safety, health, environment, and sustainability.

The recipients represent the best of Mosaic's safety culture: creative solutions, led by engaged teams, that deliver real impact in protecting our employees and the environment.

Large sites — Global award recipients

Environment

Louisiana — Dual flare system installation for hazardous release control

The Louisiana site eliminated atmospheric releases by installing two dedicated flare systems — one for processing gas and one for ammonia. All relief valves and vents now safely route to controlled destruction, significantly reducing environmental and safety risks.

Health

Esterhazy — Conveyor housekeeping under-belt cleaner

The Esterhazy site developed a custom telehandler-mounted device that remotely cleans beneath low-profile conveyors. The innovation eliminated the need for workers to manually shovel under conveyors, removing exposure to pinch-point, strain, and energy-control risks. Previously, the task required suspending equipment with lockout and posed significant ergonomic hazards.

Safety

Araxá — Elimination of scaffolding for chimney access

The Araxá site replaced the use of scaffolding at heights above 196 ft (60 meters) with rope access performed by certified specialists. The change significantly reduced fall risks, exposure to chemical agents, and physical strain during plant pre-shutdown activities.

Sustainability

Cajati — Effluent in LOOP

The Cajati site modernized the effluent discharge system of ETEL, enabling water recirculation back into the production process. The initiative reduced disposal into the Ipês channel, decreased industrial water and chemical consumption, and transformed effluents previously discarded into a strategic resource — reinforcing Mosaic's commitment to circular economy practices and operational efficiency.

Small sites — Global award recipient

Environment

Galveston — Advanced water treatment enhancement initiative

The Galveston site installed an automated wastewater treatment system featuring new piping, upgraded instrumentation, and improved chemical control. The solution greatly reduced the risk of reportable industrial stormwater releases.

Health

Paranaguá 2 — Pneumatic system for scale calibration (Big Bag Scale)

The Paranaguá 2 team implemented a pneumatic system for the automatic movement of weights during scale calibration. The solution eliminated the need for manual physical effort, reducing ergonomic risks and increasing process efficiency.

Safety

Henderson — Claw Lid Lifter installation

The Henderson site eliminated the need for employees to step onto barges, where they were exposed to slip, trip, fall, crushing, and dropped-object hazards. With the installation of the Claw Lid Lifter, barge lid removal and replacement is now performed directly from the excavator. The operator completes the entire task from inside the machine, fully eliminating barge-side exposure.

Sustainability

Paranaguá 1 and 2 — Lighting automation with motion sensors

The Paranaguá 1 and 2 sites implemented motion sensors for automatic lighting activation in common areas, restrooms, locker rooms, and administrative sectors. The system ensures lights remain on only when necessary, reducing unnecessary energy consumption and promoting a more efficient work environment.

Special recognition — Large sites

Environment

Catalão — Use of hot water in the granulator

The Catalão team began reusing cleaning water and rainwater in the granulation process, reducing industrial water consumption and drainage in gas-scrubber tanks. Flows and spargers were adjusted to ensure ideal temperature and quality, resulting in increased granulation efficiency, reduced steam consumption, lower particulate emissions, and decreased environmental and operational risks.

Safety

Uberaba — Smart Sampling project

The Uberaba team developed a predictive model (soft sensor) to estimate MAP moisture at the granulator outlet, eliminating the need for manual sampling in rotating equipment. The project reduced exposure to moving parts, increased operator safety, and improved operational control through real-time data. This project was part of a broader initiative to evaluate approximately 2,100 sampling points across multiple sites in South America and to prioritize controls for 113 high‑risk sampling locations.

Sustainability

New Wales — Eliminating gyp line waterblasting

The New Wales site eliminated multi-day water-blasting operations by installing a pumping system that moves gypsum slurry at higher velocity. The solution prevents solids from settling and clogging pipelines, so operators no longer need extensive water use or manual cleaning to restore flow.

At Mosaic, we believe every innovation focused on safety and sustainability strengthens our culture of excellence. We congratulate all recipients and their teams on their commitment to making our operations safer and more responsible.
